African Renaissance Chair

New concepts with traditional style.

Through the collaboration of Lothar B÷ttcher and Edzard du Plessis, this amazing blend of traditional African design and modern innovative craftsmanship was created.
The chair consists of two elements, one wood and the other glass.
The backrest is carved from a solid piece of Jacaranda wood using a chainsaw, chisel and sandpaper.
The glass seat consists of 30mm UV-laminated sheets with a 30mm UV-laminated centre support. All parts are hand ground and polished using handheld tools and flatbed machines.
This African Renaissance Chair can be seen with other innovative SA Art and Craft at the FNB Craft Now exhibition at the KZNSA Gallery in Durban from July 20 to August 13, 2006.
